Mormon Artist literature contest
We’re pleased to announce our first Mormon Artist contest, with the winning entries being published in a special issue of creative written work by young writers.
Categories: Short stories, personal essays, critical essays, short plays, and poetry.
Who’s eligible: Anyone thirty or under.
What we’re looking for: Work that reflects the purposes of the magazine, which include building the kingdom through the arts and encouraging artistic excellence in all disciplines.
Prizes: $100 for first place, $60 for second, and $40 for third.
Submissions deadline: February 28, 2009 (by the end of the day your time, wherever you are).
How to submit: Please e-mail submissions to literature@mormonartist.net and make sure you include the words “Young Writer” in the subject line of the e-mail. You may submit no more than three written works, but they can be in any category.
If you have any questions, feel free to email us. :)

Why you got to be so ageist, Ben?
Haha, the reason for the restriction is that the special issue will be focusing on the upcoming generation of Mormon writers. But don’t worry, we’ll have plenty more contests coming up for you old folk. ;)
What’s funny is when I saw the headline, age didn’t occur to me. For me, young writers are those with little writing experience under their belt. Some of you whippersnappers have churned out a lot of words what with your crazy NaNoWriMos and wild Play Projects.
I look forward to the issue. The interviews are great, but I prefer creative written work so it’s good to see Mormon Artist expanding in to these formats.
Ben:
Can we submit previously published work to the contest? Or does it need to be “fresh”?
And Wm:
You’re not that old, are you? ;)
Yes, Tyler, previously published work is fine.
.
Tyler—I’m older than you? Ah, crap.
Ben—do you allow third-part submissions? By which I mean I often do submissions for my ultralazy but talented friends whom I’m sure you would like to hear from but who are unlikely to press SEND on their own.
Th., that’s okay as long as they won’t physically injure you for doing so. :)
In which edition of MA is this slated to be featured?
We’ll announce the winners in this upcoming issue (due out on Saturday), but the actual publication will be a separate special issue accompanying the regular May issue.
.
I can’t believe I forgot to do this…. I’m as bad as the people I mean to help.
Don’t worry, there’ll be plenty more opportunities.
